Announcing the 2010
Southwest Wings Birding Festival
Sierra Vista, AZ
August 4 – 8, 2010
The 2010 Southwest Wings Birding and Nature Festival will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Sierra Vista at the foot of the Huachuca Mountains, minutes away from some of the most famous birding spots in the United States including the San Pedro River, Garden, Sawmill Huachuca, Ramsey, Carr, Miller and Ash Canyons.
These places have been known historically for their great biodiversity of birds, butterflies, odonates and other insects, mammals, reptiles and close to 1,000 species of plants.
Key Note Speaker: Rick Taylor will be the keynote speaker at the 2010 Festival. Rick is the founder and Director of Borderland Tours and is the author of location checklists for the birds of both the Chirichaua and Huachuca Mountains, and of Trogons of the Arizona Borderlands. His book A Birder’s Guide to Southeastern Arizona was published by the American Birding Association, 2 ed. 2005. Rick also set a “Big Year” record for the most birds seen in Mexico in 1988 with 717 species.
New! On-line Registration: Southwest Wings will soon have the ability for you to register for the 2010 Festival on-line. We are working on the update to our web page now and will have the on-line registration feature available to you early this Spring. Visit our web site at www.swwings.org for updated conference and registration information.
Book Hotels EARLY: We will soon publish information about convenient hotels/lodging for the conference. It will be important to book your lodging reservations early, as we have found out that Fort Huachuca will also be hosting a large conference in Sierra Vista during the same dates as our Festival. Most hotel rooms will be booked early for both events – so check back early for lodging booking information!
